London Days 9&10: Camden Market, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and The Tempest!

Still loving London so much! On Wednesday after class, a few of us went to the Camden Market and did some shopping in the market and the surrounding shops. It was an interesting area of town, full of pretty hard core British punk rock stores, and some cool thrift stores. afterward we went to this restaurant
called the Camden Eye and got some pretty awesome pizza.

On Thursday, we took a tour of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. First we went through a museum where they had an exhibit about the original Globe, its history, and the history of this new reconstruction, which is around 15 years old. they had a really cool exhibit about the costumes they make for these shows which I absolutely loved.

the theater was awesome. we took a tour of it, went and got some lunch, then came back to watch the Tempest. the show was amazing. we had standing seats, where the peasants would have stood back in the day, and we were literally right up against the stage. Although it was a little uncomfortable to stand for three hours, and it rained and hailed on us during the second act, it was awesome to be that close to the actors. They would walk through the crowd, sit on the stairs right next to us, pour their drinks on the audience, even mess with some of the people in the crowd. It was a really amazing theater experience that Im not likely to forget anytime soon.

Here are some awesome stills I found online of the show:

And speaking of actors, I freaked out when the character Ariel walked out on stage because it was Colin Morgan!!! aka Merlin in the tv show Merlin, aka this guy:

He did SUCH a good job, and it was so cool to see a well known actor on stage. It seems as though lots of British actors also do a lot of stage acting as well, which I think is so awesome.
