The past few days in London have been just about perfect. we started Monday morning with class, after grabbing lunch at home, I went to Regents park with one of my roommates. The weather was beautiful. Much better than the rain we had in Paris.
we spent a little over an hour sitting in the park, enjoying the sun before meeting the whole group at Churchill's War Rooms. It was a really cool museum set up in the underground bunkers that housed the headquarters for Britain's war efforts in World War II. I love learning about this time period, and it was such a well set up museum, that we were all very happy spending a few hours there. from there we ran home, then to a pub called the Sherlock Holmes. I had bangers and mash, which to my surprise, was SO good. The pub was so good, and we had a great time hanging out, eating great food and soaking in the atmosphere.
on our way to the Tube, we ended up in Trafalgar Square, one of the only tourist spots that we hadn't made it to yet. It was a beautiful square full of people enjoying the good weather. we threw coins into the fountain, walked around, and I provided some other tourists with a bit of entertainment as I tried and tried (and finally succeeded) in climbing onto a giant lion statue. (my roommate has those pictures so I am sure they will show up on facebook at some point)
from there we went to the west end and saw warhorse! Ive been wanting to see it ever since seeing the movie. It was such a beautifully done show. the horse puppets were amazing, and the whole show was so beautifully and creatively staged.
On tuesday we all went on a "country walk". we took a train out to Kent, where we met up with three nice old men who took us on an 8ish mile walk around the British country side. It was absolutely gorgeous. we walked through adorable towns, and stunning fields. I was seriously expecting to see a hobbit walking around (it didnt help that one of the guys was playing the Lord of the Rings soundtrack) or see the Hogwarts express go by. We ate lunch in the ruins of an old castle and stopped at a church towards the end of the walk, I swear its exactly what I picture when I read about Jane Eyre's almost wedding to Mr Rochester. The Weather was completely perfect. like seriously perfect. And it was really just the best day. the whole group was together, we got to see a side of England that we don't get in the city, and I think we all fell a little more in love with this beautiful country that we get to stay in.
After making it back to Gloucester Road, a few of us went to Byron's, a cool burger chain around here. They literally have the best Oreo milkshakes on the planet.
